Take for example this project built by a teacher in California. He started with a 1979 VW Rabbit Cabriolet that had the bottom cut out and welded around a 1988 Pontiac Fiero rolling chassis. Of course they didn&#8217;t easily glue together since the Fiero track was five inches wider and wheelbase was one inch shorter. The VW body was offset to the driver&#8217;s side to preserve AC connections and the fenders received flares. If that wasn&#8217;t unique enough the owner swapped out the Fiero powertrain for a 3.8 L Buick 3800 Series II L67 V6 and four-speed automatic transmission. The Eaton Gen III M90 supercharger was replaced with a Holset HX40 turbocharger which along with the intercooler was run outside the engine bay. Not many owners can watch their turbo spin in the rear-view mirror. The owner estimates the engine is making 220 hp but could easily make more with an upgraded fuel system.
