NWP Engineering took a 1992 Maxima SE and swapped in a VQ35DE from a 2002 Maxima. They kept the original automatic transmission. The current setup is producing 290 horsepower to the wheels and was able to set an all motor drag record.<\/p>\n

The engine had the heads port and polished, intake ports matched, valves lapped, and combustion chambers polished. Intake manifold was ported\/polished and mated to a smoothed out throttle body. Also several components were used from VQ35HR such as head gaskets, valve springs, and head bolts.<\/p>\n

The power was put to the ground via some Mickey Thompson ET drag slicks on 15×8 Rota Slipstream wheels.<\/p>\n

Weight was shaved by using a racing seat and removing bumper supports, sound deadening, carpet, spare tire, jack, 14 lb battery, muffler, AC, and alternator. The Maxima weighs 2600 lbs with driver.<\/p>\n

The best 1\/4 mile so far is a 12.058 @ 114.52 mph w\/ 1.904 60′ at Coastal Plains Dragway in Jacksonville, NC on 4\/9\/10 using 20″ Slicks. This makes the car the current record holder for all motor Maxima.<\/p>\n
