The 5.4 L V8 had only 8,000 miles on it. The original plan was to swap the supercharged V8 into a 1998 Mustang until an upgraded 1997 Mustang Cobra came up for sale. The Cobra originally had a 5.0 L V8 under the hood. The Cobra was purchased for $5,500 because the motor was bad. The Cobra came with a full Maximum Motorsports race suspension. It included tubular K-member, tubular lower control arms, and Bilstein coilovers. It also included an IRS, a MGW shifter to control the T-56 six-speed transmission, upgraded brakes, and a roll cage. The only modifications needed for the engine swap was to the oil filter adapter-alternator bracket and the use of a different alternator.
