This kit allowed second generation (1965-1969) Corvair owners the ability to install different V8 engines in front of the rear axle. This gave the Corvair better weight distribution and performance. You can still buy this kit if you are interested. This conversion is not an easy project. Using this conversion you will lose two seats. The mid-engine location places the engine in the same location as the rear seats. The transaxle’s new location requires a huge hold cut into the floor. To illustrate why someone would go through the trouble of a project like this, just watch the video below of Chuck Rust’s 1965 Corvair “Crown V8”. His particular Corvair uses a high revving 310 horsepower 283 cubic inch V8.

Source: Drive and Road & Track

The Crown Corv-8 Corvair engine kit was created in the late 60’s by Ted Trevor.
