Jonathan Ward debuted the newest ICON Thriftmaster #3. The Thriftmasters are based on a 1947-1953 Chevrolet 3100 Thriftmaster five-window pickup that ICON takes completely down to bare metal and then builds it to perform like a modern vehicle.<\/p>\n

The chassis is built by Art Morrison specifically for 1947-1953 GM trucks with some small modifications from ICON. The 2″x6″ main rails and crossmembers are built in a way that allows almost any V8 and transmission combination to be used. It also provides power rack and pinion steering along with independent front suspension and rear 4-link suspension.<\/p>\n

The engine is a 5.3 L LM4 crate engine. They made 290 horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque from the factory. Of course this engine produces more thanks to a Magnuson supercharger placed on top which gives around 120 extra horsepower and lb-ft of torque.<\/p>\n

Behind the engine sits a heavy-duty 4L85E four-speed automatic transmission connected to a 3\/4 ton driveshaft and finally a Strange 9″ rear end. Jonathan says he built the drivetrain especially strong for “his style” of driving. <\/p>\n
