This 1952 Buick Super Riviera is called “Bombshell Betty” and was built and driven by Jeff Brock. He finished work on it in 2009 and set out with a top speed of 130.838 mph. Then in its final year of competition reached a record speed of 165.735 mph. Between 2009 and 2013 Jeff set six Land Speed world records with his creation. Under the hood Jeff installed a 320 ci (5.2 L) inline-eight sourced from a 1950 Buick Roadmaster that has been bored .20 over for a total of 324 ci. The engine was upgraded with Arias 11:1 pistons, solid lifter cam, Oldsmobile racing harmonic balancer, custom intake with a pair of two-barrel carburetors. All this is good for 340 horsepower. Behind the engine sits a Borg Warner T-10 four-speed manual transmission and 9″ rear end with 2.73 gears. The front suspension has been sourced from a 1968 Chevy Van with a dropped axle narrowed to 11″ and solid mounted. The rear suspension was taken from a 1973 Ford Thunderbird.

  1. I love the hot rod look with aero function and the fact that it’s running a Buick straight eight. At least it’s not another LSx or something ho-hum like that.

  2. Interesting. Car looks like something from a Mad Max movie. Pretty cool, especially the engine, not often you hear about straight eight swaps.
