Take a $500 Volvo Amazon and remove everything except the body. Then take a Lexus SC400 and cut off the entire body. Glue them together and you have this custom creation. The classic car is now powered by a 4.0 L 1UZ-FE V8 with a modern drivetrain. The Lexus frame had to be shorten three inches to match the Volvo body. The owner is in the process of widening the fenders for larger wheels.

Wow…I have planned on doing this for years, but I have had trouble finding a suitable donor where the dimensions are as close as possible to the amazon. How did you find the steering wheel / pedals line up?. Did you create a new flat floorplan?. mThis is a wicked idea…I just love it!
Hey thats my car! I’m famous!
I can answer colins questions though…
Steering wheel and pedals were almost exact in the two cars, i’m using the entire lexus floorpan, just narrowed and shortened about 3″.
Thanks Rob for answering questions. It is a great project.
Thanks for adding it to your site. Very cool. Finally getting some time to work on it now.
do you have a write up on how you did this?
Here is a link to the build thread…I hope that is ok.
The motor runs as of last night too! Yippy!

Thanks Rob for updating us with the video.
Updates on pro touring!
Thanks Rob
Great job on the modification! Very eager to see the finished result…
I’m wondering about one thing though, how do you get this road legal? In Belgium, where I live, even engine mods are quickly seen as being illegal, and if I’d register it as an oldtimer I can basically do whatever I want, but that would give me too much extra restrictions (allowed distances, no driving at night, etc.).
Any thoughts on that? I think I’ll never get away with getting it approved to be road legal out here because (i think) the chassis are ‘self supporting’, and they might be suspicious about how safe the construction is after welding two cars together 🙂
Oh, and do you have any other recommendations for plausible donor cars with a similar floor plan?
In any case, thanks for the idea!
I am in Canada, it will be registered as a 1966 Volvo….and that is all there is too it here.
The other donor I was thinking of was a subaru platform. 😉
The car runs now on a sprint 500 by haltech!
Car is now registered in my name as a 1966 Volvo, and has been driven a few times (not on the road yet) 🙂
