This 1962 Maserati 3500 GT is for sale on eBay (ESD may earn commisions when a product is purchased from this link) with an asking price of $79,500. There is no explanation for what happened to the original 3.5 L Tipo 101 inline-six but a 327 ci Chevy V8 now replaces it. 1. 80K from Beverly Hills Motor Club… WHEW
If it was a running driving numbers matching example. I would have to get an inspection from a marque expert before I considered 80K from BHMC.
If it was more reasonable money it might be fun to swap in a twin turbo 3.5 L V-6 and a six or eight speed transmission. Probably save a couple hundred pounds and get a few more ponies in the deal..

    1. I was curious so I looked up the value on Hagerty. Fair value = $186,000 with average being $224,000. I would say the body/glass/trim fall under the fair category. The roll cage, engine bay metalwork, missing front bumper and of course unoriginal engine probably drops a bit from there. I would guess the person who would want to purchase this would take it back to factory level with an era-correct engine for a flip sale.

  2. This car is confused. There doesn’t seem to be a clear direction for the build, which I’d guess is an older job that’s been updated.

I’m trying to figure a few things out. Are the seats Ford or Volvo? Who thought it’d be a good idea to string a plug wire over the PCV valve? Is it a fun road car, budget pro-touring, or drag oriented?

      1. I believe that. The GM steering column and cheapy steering wheel (with missing fasteners) contrast with some of the other details, like the sheet metal around the engine. There’s potential here. Imagine this with a turbo 2JZ, or a small, high revving, aluminum V8.

It’s got good bones, but the heart is a rusty lump.
