Diesel Pump UK specializes in Mercedes diesel engine (OM602, OM603, OM605, and OM606) conversions. The company just finished upgrading a Land Rover Defender with a 3.0 L OM606 turbo diesel inline-six. The company bumped the engine’s output from 174 horsepower to 300 horsepower with a hybrid version of the stock turbocharger and quickspool exhaust manifold.

  1. There is no possible way any version of the stock turbo can support 300hp. That Micro Machine turbo is maxed out in stock form.

  2. hello, am new to this site, please assist me with this: can i swap an om606 engine into a w163 ml270cdi model 2002?
thanks for the hardwork, am awaiting for a reply

  3. Hi folks, I’m re-building an old Defender 90 (1997) and would want to fit a Mercedes 0M606 diesel but my mechanic says I can’t have the diff lock.

Please advise how I can still have the diff lock working with the engine swap.

    Cheers!

  4. Greetings fam’! I’m in Ghana, Africa and putting an OM606 into a Defender 90. How hook up the Diff lock (4wd) functionality. Is there a kit I need to get? Help plssssss!!!!!

    1. Centre diff will not take anywhere near this torque, its fragile enough stock. A rear LSD or Locker will probably be as good. You would have to have freewheel front hubs though.

    2. Sorry, I meant to say, what do you require? The stock box would give you a centre lock ability. Me personally I would go for an auto married to a RangeRover or V8 Landrover transfer case, or the whole auto trans from a RR. 110/90 trans is just not strong enough. Next problem with this torque is the driveshafts and even the propshafts just corkscrewing up. The whole trans on a LR is underengineered as it is stock. Good luck.

  5. Hi can I fit an om606 into my 2011 2.4 defender , if I source my engine how much would it cost for the conversion? Cheers tony Doncaster

    1. Greetings, Tony.

I can’t tell you the price for the defender, but try dieselpumkuk.com
What I can tell you is that, parts and fabrication budget for 2nd gen Dodge Ram is $5000. That is 2k for engine, 1500 for AX15 adapter kit, 500 for om603 mechanical IP, and 1k for fabrication etc. Price goes up from there..

      Hope this helps,
      Vr
      Evan
