This 1980 Mercury Cosworth Capri will be auctioned at Mecum Kissimmee on January 3-13 for an estimated $75,000-$90,000. It’s the only 1980 Cosworth Capri ever made by Ford and features a custom steel widebody fabricated by Ron Fournier. Under the hood sits a Cosworth 1.6 L BDA inline-four with dual Weber 45 DCOE carbs and dry sump system that makes 186 horsepower. Ford paired the engine with a ZF five-speed manual transmission and locking differential. The combination was good enough to send the 2,500 lb vehicle from 0-60 mph in six seconds. The car also features Koni F81 shocks, heated Recaro seats, and original 3-piece BBS Gold-center wheels. You can read more on Ford’s decision to develop the car in Hemmings’ article.

Not a Ford guy, but if I had a spare $90k I might look carefully at this one.
Having a well designed one-of-one vehicle would be amazing.
Add the turbo from a Cosworth Sierra and you would see an easy 300-500 hp-depending on boost level.
Makes me want to build a clone with the turbocharged version Mustang used.
Not really. A motor with compression as high as this BDA would never work with a turbo. The YB turbo Cosworth is a totally different motor to this, and 400cc larger. There was a turbo version of the later BDG engine, designated BDT, That was used in the Ford RS200 and a few smaller displacement turbo engines were made for the prototype RS1700T escorts.
