Building a 1998 VW Beetle with Two Supercharged V6 Engines

This 1998 VW Beetle started life as a daily driver with a 2.0 L inline-four. Unfortunately it broke down in a snow storm and left the owner stranded. The car sat for five months until the owner decided to use a supercharged Buick 3.8 L L67 V6 from a Pontiac Bonneville SSEi he had sitting around to build a RWD Bettle.

After cutting the rear floor and trunk out he then cut the floor and subframe out of another Beetle to mount in the back. The subframe is a combination of a Beetle and Pontiac GTP subframe and it bolts in place of the factory rear suspension swing arm. After the engine was in the back the owner soon realized he needed to add weight to the front and figured why not add another identical supercharged Buick 3.8 L V6 to the front.

If that wasn’t unique enough, the car is also converted to right-hand drive. The owner hopes to replace the superchargers with turbochargers and with a goal of 900 horsepower combined. You can view more photos and follow the progress at the project’s Facebook page.

  1. I’ve been hearing about this from my nephew for awhile. I can remember when he used to create awesome things out of stuff that didn’t matter. Well, he’s still doing it! Keep on amazing us Tony.
