1993 Ford Festiva with Mid-Engine Chevy V8

When this 1993 Ford Festiva rolled out of the factory it was powered by a Mazda inline-four and front-wheel drive. The current owner decided to keep it front-wheel drive but in an usual way. The little red car now features a 355 ci Chevy V8 mated to a TH350 automatic transmission. Power is sent forward to a 1989 BMW 325i limited-slip differential with modified Audi 90 CV shafts. The owner reinforced the chassis with rectangular tubing and installed a custom roof-exiting exhaust system.

  1. What is with that weird exhaust system? Where does that fifth pipe lead to and why is there a throttle body or some kind of valve in the box in the middle. Is there a turbo involved somewhere? Has the owner created some kind of manual wastegate? I am really confused by this setup.
