Derale Performance in Los Angeles, California is known for their automotive cooling products. For SEMA 2016 the company lead by Tom Longo decided to build a Nascar inspired 1966 Mercury Cyclone GT.
The car was built in the corner of their manufacturing facility by their employees. Tom says it took longer and cost more to do it this way but the satisfaction from building something yourself usually makes up for the overrun.
As mentioned before the team wanted to build a stock car inspired by 1966-1967 Nascar. The team was influenced by Bud Moore’s Cyclones he built for Nascar.
Powering the Cyclone is a 427 ci stroker small-block V8 built by JMS Racing Engines in El Monte, California. Behind the engine is a Richmond five-speed manual transmission connected to a Currie Enterprises 9″ rear end.
