This 1987 De Tomaso Pantera GT5-S has an amazing story. It would typically be powered by a 351 ci (5.7L) Ford V8. However this Pantera was built by Carroll Shelby. The story goes Carroll was working with Lee Iacocca to create a secret prototype. The plan was to create a sports car with a rear mid-engine twin-turbo V8. Lee contributed a 360 ci NASCAR-based Chrysler V8 to which Carroll boosted with a twin-turbo system from Gale Banks of Banks Power. The project was abondoned and lost for decades until it resurfaced in 2018 at auction without a motor. Beau Boeckmann from Galpin Motors purchased the Pantera and hoped to find the lost motor. He contacted Carroll’s friends who recommended searching in a specific junkyard. They found the motor and Galpin Auto Sports (GAS) rebuilt it while Gale Banks provided new turbochargers.
