Daniel Schien and his “E30 Elvis” returned to Santa Pod Raceway for the VW Action Show. The car started as a 1986 BMW 325i model with a 2.5 L M20 inline-six. It is now powered by a turbocharged 2.8 L M50 inline-six capable of 1,154 hp (845 kW) at 8166 rpm and 1,059 Nm (781 lb-ft) of torque at 7427 rpm on Bioethanol E100 fuel. The motor features forged H-beam rods, forged pistons, 9.0:1 compression, Pulsar G42-1450 turbocharger, SchmidtMotoring ported head, and custom exhaust and intake manifolds. Behind the motor is a PTB Racing twin-disc clutch and GearMotive H-pattern five-speed dogbox. After some issues Daniel turned the boost up to 2.5 bar (36.2 psi) and completed an 8.127-sec quarter-mile at 279 km/h (173 mph). Daniel is building another M50B28 motor for next season to reach the 7’s.
