Toyota Corolla with a Mercedes Turbo Diesel Inline-Five

Toyota Corolla with a Mercedes OM605 turbo diesel inline-five

Alexander Stamsaas transformed his Toyota Corolla KE70 into a diesel race car in his garage in Norway. Under the hood sits a Mercedes 2.5 L OM605.960 inline-five with a compound twin-turbo system that makes 398 horsepower and 550 Nm (405 lb-ft) of torque to the wheels. The engine features a Holset HX30W and HX40W turbochargers, KM cams valve springs and Stage 1 camshafts, and F-tune Performance custom intake manifold. It connects to a BMW GS6-37dz six-speed diesel transmission with a Tilton triple-disc clutch, custom one-piece driveshaft, and Volvo 240 rear end with 3.54 gears. The front suspension was upgraded using Nissan S13 adjustable control arms, S14 adjustable coilovers, and Skyline R32 GTR brakes with 296×32 mm rotors. The project weighs 1117 kg (2462 lb) with a 57.5% front bias. View more photos and progress in the project’s build thread.

  1. STD is operated by children that haven’t done anything to contribute to the Diesel field. They can’t even figure out how a stock OM617 injection pump governor works!
