Building a Mitsubishi Outlander with an Evo X Powertrain

Mitsubishi Outlander with an Evo X 4B11T powertrain

Alvin Prakash is currently transforming his Mitsubishi Outlander into his dream Evo Wagon out of his garage in Australia. He started with a 2nd generation Outlander (CW5W) to which he’s swapping the entire powertrain and suspension from an Evo X. This means he is using the turbocharged 2.0 L 4B11T inline-four, five-speed manual transmission, transfer case, differentials, front and rear subframes, and suspension. Alvin plans on keeping everything like a factory vehicle thanks to extensive electrical work. He plans on retaining AC, cruise control, traction control, anti-lock brakes, and even Active Yaw control (AYC) and Active Center Differential (ACD). You can see more photos of the project and follow the progress at @oversized_chipmunk.

  1. Hi i think this is pretty cool. I have a 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport with a 2.0 4 cylinder with 164 hp. I want it to get more power. But i have no idea what type of engine to throw in for this engine setup. Or if it would be more practical to make room for a turbo of some sort. I love faster cars, and would like to make my compact SUV and get more power. Its pretty slow. Sorry if i dont really make much sense. I know nothing at all about cars. But am very interested in something simliar to your project.

    1. Just replying to your comment. I myself been looking to buy a Mitsubishi crossover, maybe Eclipse Cross or Outlander Sport. But at the same time I want something “sporty”. Unfortunately, your Outlander Sport does not have a lot aftermarket performance parts. They have suspension mods or a exhaust system, maybe air intake but that’s pretty much it.

Far as getting a turbo, if you have a CVT transmission, it probably wouldn’t handle the horse power if you turbo it. There maybe a slim chance to mod or “beef up” the Jatco transmission, but i doubt it. Stick shift maybe more possible, but you may have to change the clutch. Engine swaps can get very expensive. Plus, you have certify the car and that’s another problem to deal with. Factoring in parts, building up the engine for turbo, etc. it can get into the thousands.

If you really want to mod it your vehicle, best start is suspension, rims, and tires. Maybe a chance for ECU tuning. Get on one of the Mitsubishi forums to ask questions, hope this helps.

  2. Hi I have a 2014 mitsubishi outlander sport manual and also want more power or do a swap. What should I do to add hp? Thanks.

  3. I have a 2015 Outlander Sport ES, 5SP manual. Unfortunately with the 5sp ES Manual, it’s FWD only, which is fine, but I live in New England where winter is unpredictable. Already found out that the 15 Outlander Sport ES is a kite in wind and snow..
Been given the suggestion of doing a motor/trans swap to an evo x motor/awd setup…
Wondering if there were any “rough” guides on how to go about this, or if someone has done or thought of this with the 2015 Outlander Sport..

    1. I’ve been wondering the same thing spun a robbery on my 2015 Mitsubishi outlander sport 2.4 l 4B12 motor smash two bucket lifters focusing hit the two exhaust valves and replaced our machine head gasket and now I think it’s my rod that has been yoked can’t find a motor anywhere for a reasonable price but I can’t find a lancer motor wondering if anybody knows all that I have to change out because I got to get this done.

  4. Hello general question as I am proceeding to swap 4B11T to my outlander. Only issue is my car is FWD and I don’t plan on going AWD, is it possible to retain the stock 6speed Automatic transmission and pair it with the 4B11T ( from Lancer Ralliart).
Will my Transmission bolt on directly to the 4B 11T?
Thank you in advance, would be grateful if anyone can help.
