Zach Wright’s Taurus SHO Goes 9.65 sec

Zach Wright set out in 2016 to transform his 1995 Taurus SHO into a 9-second car. The journey was a tough one but it all paid off when Zach set a World record for fastest Taurus at Street Car Takeover Indy with a 9.659 sec at 160.06 mph. A week before the event Zach had to build another motor after suffering bearing failure. The new turbocharged V6 features aluminum connecting rods with custom race bearings. It’s mated to a Quaife transmission with HD gearset from SHO Source, Clutch Masters 725-series twin disc clutch, and upgraded pressure plate. No word on the power output but the previous motor made 825 horsepower to the wheels on 20 psi of boost.

  1. I had a ’90 SHO and it was also pretty fast from the factory 🙂 This car does seem modified just a bit from the 220hp rating in my SHO!

This is a tremendous accomplishment, to get so much FWD power to the ground for nearly ten seconds without breaking anything, well done Zach!!

  2. As a previous owner of 3 ’89-95 MTX SHO’s On my ’94 SHO I ended up having the “Achilles Heel” of the V6 Yamaha engine bite me once as well. Catastrophic connected rod bearing failure…

After that using standard size clevite connecting rod bearings and about 4.5 hours under the car I was able to remedy that problem on all my other SHO’s.

I absolutely love the ’89-95 Taurus SHO. Magnificent engines and in my opinion the definitive sleeper car straight outta the factory.

I’m happy that you got the chance to show the world what the SHO is capable of after putting time and money into it.

In my opinion, the only true Taurus S.H.O were produced from 1989 to 1995. Everything after that was just imitation and lack of imagination.

Great driving on your end too.
