Volkswagen recently debuted their XL Sport model which is based on the XL1 platform. Instead of 47 bhp, 800 cc turbo diesel, the XL Sport contains a 197 horsepower V-twin motor from a Ducati 1199 Superleggera motorcycle. The engine features titanium connecting rods, desmodromic valvegear, and magnesium-alloy cylinder head.
The Ducati engine only produces 99 lb-ft of torque but considering the car only weighs 1,962 lbs it is able to reach 0-62 mph in 5.7 seconds and a top speed of 168 mph. VW claims the car has better aerodynamics than any other sports car. VW added vanes to direct air in the front, wheelarch vents, optimized underbody, lift-reducing air ducks in the hood, extendable rear spoiler, and adaptive air vents in the rear hatch.
