VW Golf Mk1 with a Turbo 07K Inline-Five

Ricardo Kruijf loves VW and Audi vehicles. For the past few years, he’s been channeling that passion into building the ultimate Mk1 Golf in his garage in the Netherlands.

The Golf will be powered by a turbocharged VW 07K inline-five capable of 1,000 hp. HE-Services built the motor with a factory TT-RS crankshaft, DP Engine Parts TT-RS pistons and rods, and billet main caps. On top sits a ported head with Supertech valvetrain.

Boost will be generated by a Garrett G42-1200 turbocharger paired to a custom manifold and Turbosmart GenV PowerGate 60 mm wastegate. Fuel will be fed by two DeatschWerks DW350il pumps through 10 Bosch EV14 1200 cc injectors.

Ricardo plans to support the engine’s power with an equally powerful drivetrain. A Sachs RCS200 twin-plate clutch will transfer power to a MQ350 manual transmission with a Don Octane dogbox gear kit and Gripper limited-slip differential.

A custom driveshaft will send power to the rear wheels through a Mk3 VR6 rear end with a Haldex differential and custom upgraded axles.

Ricardo will offset the Golf’s power with a set of AP Racing brakes. In front are four-piston calipers with 330×28 mm slotted rotors. In back are two-piston calipers with 280×25 mm slotted rotors. Those will be covered by a set of OZ Racing BTCC 17-inch wheels.
