Doyle Thomason’s Ford-Powered NASCAR Chassis with a Camry Body

NASCAR chassis with a Ford V8 and Camry body

In 2021 Doyle Thomason built a Crown Victoria with a 460 ci Ford V8. He drove the car for many years before wanting to build another project. He swapped the Ford V8 into a 4WD truck and then a 2WD truck. When Doyle came across a rolling NASCAR Car of Tomorrow chassis, he knew this would be the foundation for his next project. After he got the chassis Doyle rebuilt the motor with a 1888-1991 460 ci short block bored .02 over topped with D3 heads and a Weiand intake manifold. The V8 sits on 1991 F-250 2WD mounts and features L&L longtube exhaust headers from a 1986 F-250. Behind the motor is a 2WD ZF5 five-speed manual transmission supported by a modified 1986 F-250 crossmember. Doyle will complete the powertrain with a 12-bolt rear end. Other parts carried over from a Ford truck are the pedal assembly, steering column, clutch cylinder, and wiring harness from a 1986 F-250. The finishing touch will be a 2008 Toyota Camry body installed over the chassis.
