JDM Legends built this 1972 Datsun 240Z on MotorTrend’s “JDM Legends” series. The iconic car won several awards including Best Resto-mod Vehicle at Wekfest LA, Best Datsun Award at TunerEvo, Best Datsun at JCCS, and Nissan Factory Choice Award at ZCON.
Under the hood is a 2.8 L L28 inline-six with 280ZX flat-top pistons, street camshaft, and JDM Legends velocity stacks with 45 mm carbs. Exhaust gases are routed through a Fujitsubo 6-2 stainless steel header and piping. Behind the motor is an Exedy clutch and Competition Clutch lightened flywheel connected to a 280ZX five-speed manual transmission.
JDM Legends improved the car’s handling with Techno Toy Tuning (T3) parts. These include front and rear lower control arms, front billet hubs, front and rear strut braces, solid Pillowball mount, Evolved coilover conversion, and inner and outer tie rods. They complemented these upgrades with MSA front and rear sway bars.
Braking is handled by Techno Toy Tuning (T3) front and rear Micro Disc Brake kit. This allows for JDM Legends to install Wilwood four-piston calipers in the front and rear. Covering those are Watanabe R Type (Gunmetal) with 15×9.5-inch (-19 offset) in front and 15×10-inch (-25 offset) in rear. The wheels hold Toyo Tires R888R tires (205/50, 225/50).
The 240Z’s body features a DCW Classics G-Nose conversion covered in a custom white paint by CIO’S Restoring The Dream. That is accented by 240ZG over-fenders, Z432-style rear spoiler, and Euro/JDM-style taillights and turn signals.
Inside the cabin JDM Legends installed a pair of Bride Histrix carbon fiber backed seats. In front of that is a Datsun Competition steering wheel rising from a restored factory dash featuring JDM Legends’ 432-style tachometer, GPS speedometer, water and oil temp gauges.
