Phillip Glass-Hess aka Wingman703 built his 1994 Mazda Miata for hillclimb and time attack. The sports car is powered by a turbocharged 2.5 L Volkswagen 07K inline-five sitting further back in the engine bay thanks to a custom recessed firewall. The motor produces of 465 hp (342 kW) and 433 lb-ft (587 Nm) of torque. Phillip backed the motor with a Dodge 8HP eight-speed automatic transmission using a custom adapter from ChathamCNC. To test his creation Phillip took the Miata to Pine Mount Hillclimb in Pineville, Kentucky and achieved P2 in Appalachian HillClimb Series class. After that he attended Carolina Motorsports Park in Kershaw, South Carolina and achieve P1 in NASA SE TTU class. Read more details on the project’s progress in the build thread.
