This 1986 Toyota MR2 arrived at ATS Racing for engine work. The factory 1.6 L 4A-GE inline-four needed rebuilding after the owner drove the car since 1988. ATS Racing recommended swapping 1.8 L 2ZR-FE inline-four as it would cost about the same and offer more power. The 4A-GE produces 95 hp (70 kW) and 93 lb-ft (126 Nm) of torque and the 2ZR-FE produces 131 hp (97 kW) and 132 lb-ft (178 Nm) of torque. ATS Racing got the engine running on a Scion xD (automatic) ECU and wiring harness. They paired the motor with a Toyota U341E four-speed automatic transmission from a 2009-2013 Corolla. ATS Racing says if completed this swap again, they would choose a U341E transmission from a 2004-2006 Scion xB. They are cheaper and have less complications.
