Corey Darke built his 1989 Ford Mustang to compete in eight-mile drag racing. Under the hood sits a 4.0 L Barra inline-six built and tuned by Phantom Performance & Dyno in Mutdapilly, Queensland, Australia connected to a Powerglide two-speed transmission . The engine features ported head, nitrous, Garrett GT55 turbocharger, and Haltech Elite 2500 ECU. Running an upgraded fuel system with large injectors, the engine makes 1,600 horsepower to the rear wheels on methanol fuel. The powertrain resulted in 4.852 sec at 147.33 mph in the eighth-mile and 7.984 sec at 172.67 mph in the quarter-mile.

It was only a matter of time for the Barra to make it to the USA. Perfect for a Mustang swap. Sucks that there is no manual swap for and AWD Mustang…..Mustang GTR.
I think the car is in Australia, given some of the other cars in the photos. It’s not uncommon for Mustangs, etc to get exported to our Aussie pals.
That said, I really wanted to do a Barra swap in one of my fox bodies, but never quite had the cash to make it happen. Dang!
You could probably do an awd mustang with an RB26 because the frint axle goes thru, and is supported by, the oil pan. Not a Barra, but close. Youd need tubular front end and skyline front spindles and hubs. But itd doable. RWD, 6 speed stick, and a 4-500hp Barra is more what i want. Use an early k member from a 200 inline 6 car and mounts and a reprogrammed eec v ecu and youre set! Hmm… maybe next year…
