The owner of this custom Golf wanted the convenience of a five-door hatchback but the performance of an R32. Since Volkswagen never sold the five-door in the USA, the owner built his own. The unique creation starts with a 2000 Golf 1.8T five-door hatchback body and chassis. Then he installed the powertrain and interior from a 2004 R32. The hatchback now sports a 3.2 L VR6 making 238 horsepower and 236 lb-ft of torque, six-speed manual transmission, and 4Motion 4WD drivetrain. The car rides on a KW V2 coilover suspension and Stoptech crossdrilled/slotted rotors behind TSW Bathurst 19×8 wheels. View more photos of the project in the Flickr build album.
Sorry to break this to you matey but VW produced the Mk4 Golf R32 in both 3 and 5 door options. Still if doing it the tough and expensive way then go knock yourself out.
Not in the US. They were 3-door only. Same went for the mk5 R32
BIG CAP
You are correct but VW never sold the five-door in the USA. I’ve updated the article to make it more clear.
A tu changé le faisceaux de la cabine
I’m going the exact opposite way with this. I’ve a blue 5 door 4motion which has been written off due to a front end smash and I’m swapping the bits into a silver gti. Found this looking for information.
