This 1988 Mustang has a complete drivetrain swap from an Audi A6 which includes the 2.7 L turbo V6, AWD system, and front/rear suspension. When we first wrote about this Mustang it was still being built. Since then the project has completed and made a few passes down the strip. On the stock factory twin-turbos and automatic transmission the Mustang’s best time was 13.44 seconds at 99.84 mph.

Then the owner/builder decides to changed the automatic transmission to an Audi 01E six-speed manual transmission. The videos below document upgrading the fuel system, adding a fuel cell, and switching the factory turbos over to a single Garrett GT3071R turbocharger that was mounted in the middle of the car. With the recent changes the owner is hoping to reach the low to mid-11s.

  1. This reminds me of the defunct Autolatina when VW and Ford made a deal where shared technologies in their models in South America.
