BMW E39 M5 test mule with a VW W10 motor

We first discovered this unique BMW E39 M5 when it was listed for sale in Belgium. The car’s story starts with Volkswagen using it as a test mule for a prototype W10 motor. The vinyl decals on the car states the W10 motor makes 450-500 hp (330-367 kW) and 550 Nm (405 lb-ft) of torque. When the car visited Heinz Performance’s dyno it made 480 hp (353 kW) and 592 Nm (436 lb-ft) of torque. Mike Fernie from Drivetribe was given a chance to test drive the car. Listen to him discuss what is like driving a BMW M5 with a W10.
